currently serves as chair emeritus of the Festival and has served at various times
over the past 10 years as its co-chair.
Born and raised in New York, Jesse graduated from Fordham University. He
became a Pharmacist and retired at age 54. Jesse and his wife Myrna have been
married for over 50 years and made Tampa, Florida their home 21 years ago.
Together, Jesse and Myrna have two children, Andrew and Mitchell, and three
grandchildren; Alex, Ben and Sarah.
Jesse is also a sponsor of the annual Holocaust Educational Film Series, which offers
a Holocaust educational field trip each year for Tampa area middle school students.
In addition, Jesse sits on the board of the Hillels of the Florida Suncoast, the
Jewish Community Relations Council and volunteers on various other committees
within the Tampa JCC/Federation organization. He also co-directed a Jewish advocacy
class at the University of South Florida with Miriam Zack.
A film aficionado, Jesse's favorite movie is "The Long Way Home," a Holocaust-themed
movie that continues the story of survivors during the period of 1945 to 1948. In his
leisure time, Jesse enjoys playing tennis, golfing and fishing and is also an avid reader.
The Tampa Bay Jewish Film Festival thanks Jesse Starr for the effort, dedication and
